Reciprocal links V Paid links
I’ve been working hard for the last couple of months on client’s sites, so I apologise for the delay in posting. However something grabbed my attention quite recently. The guys over at Enquiro are answering SEO based questions from some of their readers and this post caught my eye.
I basically think that they are wrong. Lets imagine if you will, that you are Google.

Now the thing you most hate in the world are people trying to bust your ranking equation by gaining links that they are not entitled to. Bearing in mind that they have a gazillion (ok I made that number up but you get the idea) PHD researchers, don’t you think you would be able to find the pattern for a links page? Hmm lets try:
- http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=inurl%3Aresources+-site%3Aedu&btnG=Search&hl=en
Those two should do to get you started. Now compare those to this Christmas Blog. Which links to a search engine robot, would look spammier? (yeah i know i made up a word). More to the point which links do you really think are actually working to increase rankings and drive traffic?
I apologise for the rant, but really do think that this had to be said before more unsuspecting webmasters go off on a reciprocal link goose chase.
This post comes with a caveat: I am NOT saying don’t get reciprocal links. I am saying that Paid One Way links (when they are done correctly and below the radar) are more effective at helping rankings and driving relevant traffic.
Analytics for marketers
I have been away for a while and so blog posting has ceased quite consierably, but don’t worry I’m back now. Plans for the next month include a launch of a few offline marketing techniques to bring in some affiliate conversions, and a move to the North.
In the meantime you really have to check out the excellent work that is being done on Web Analytic Matt, with his Long Tail tool . I absolutely love this tool and can think of a few ways to use it when producing copy for your sites. Hmmm… I might even write a bit of an instruction on this one. Matt I’ll give ya a heads up when it’s finished.
Anyway off to pack now for the move up North. If you’ve got any comments for the blog or want to chat SEO and Online Marketing please leave a comment.
Niche Blueprints
Yep we are currently investigating ways of monetising the knowledge stored in these collective heads. And so far we have discussed niche-blueprints at length. Yeah i know there are a few other people doing this. Why would you wanna go after a saturated market etc etc….
Well, we reckon that there is still space for a niche search marketer around here. One with knowledge about sports, environmental and IT issues. There will be a major new project in the wings soon and a cracking affiliate offer if your interested. Maybe leave a comment and I can let you know when they get released.
Search engine marketer
Does your company really understand the power of the web? Do they believe that a well thought out direct marketing (DM) campaign can bring in lots of customers who will buy what they are selling?
Ok can agree with this; DM does work. Now imagine you didn’t have to sit at a desk printing out letters, folding those pristine white letters into little window envelopes and bundling them together for the post. Imagine if you will, getting into work in the morning to find another lead in your email inbox.
This new lead is DESPERATE for your service and products. They are falling over themselves to give you their purchase order. Hmmmm…
Did you see who did all of the leg work in that particular example? Yep, that would be the customer. Now I’m not suggesting you dump your DM, but perhaps you might want to have a chat with a proper search engine marketer
Comments welcome
MS Outlook 2007
Oh dear, looks like those of us in the marketing areana are in for a rough ride this year as MS get ready to release their new Office 2007 suite. The version of Outlook now included in it has the HTML rendering engine from Word 2003 (READ: it doesn’t display HTML very well -understatement!) . Oh yea and don’t you even go thinking about including video or flash in your email, cos that hasn’t got a cat in hells chance of working
Where did I get this juicey tit bit? WebmasterPro News – feel free to add the link in the comments cos I can’t remember it.
